FEC candidates by cycle

One row per FEC candidate per two-year cycle, as that cycle's bulk candidate master states it: name, party, election year, office, status and principal committee. Read by the fec-candidate-history rollup through SpicyDocs' candidate-master reader, which verifies each file by digest and checks the publisher's header. Codes stay literal. All columns are stored as VARCHAR.

Coverage. True range. Every cycle from 1980 through the current one: each run reads every cycle's bulk candidate master whole and publishes every row. The current cycle's file is republished daily, so its rows change. (measured 2026-09-30)

Column Type Description
candidate_id VARCHAR The FEC candidate id (CAND_ID).
cycle VARCHAR The two-year cycle the file covers, as its closing even year.
name VARCHAR The candidate's name as that cycle's file states it (CAND_NAME); NULL when blank.
party VARCHAR The party affiliation code (CAND_PTY_AFFILIATION), literal; NULL when blank.
election_year VARCHAR The candidate's election year as filed (CAND_ELECTION_YR); NULL when blank.
office_state VARCHAR The office's state code (CAND_OFFICE_ST); NULL when blank.
office VARCHAR The office sought code (CAND_OFFICE), literal; NULL when blank.
office_district VARCHAR The office's district (CAND_OFFICE_DISTRICT); NULL when blank.
incumbent_challenger_status VARCHAR The incumbent/challenger/open code (CAND_ICI), literal; NULL when blank.
status VARCHAR The candidate status code (CAND_STATUS), literal; NULL when blank.
principal_committee_id VARCHAR The candidate's principal campaign committee (CAND_PCC); NULL when none.
