usaspending_recipients

Federal award recipients

One row per federal-award recipient, ingested from the USASpending.gov /api/v2/recipient/ endpoint by build_usaspending_recipients. A keyless (no API key) org-resolution reference dimension keyed by UEI and name — the organizations that receive federal money — complementary to the SAM entity registry and the fec_committees table for resolving and enriching the organizations that comment on rulemakings by their federal funding. Two selections of the endpoint's ranking by trailing-12-month federal award amount (owner decision 48): a daily read of the top 10,000, and a weekly walk of every recipient with a positive amount, to the end of the funded tail (the endpoint lists about 18M recipients, most unfunded in the window). Each run merges with the prior table, preferring the fresh row, so a recipient outside a run's selection keeps its earlier amount and its original observation columns. A recipient absent here had no positive trailing-12-month amount at the last weekly walk, or is newer than it. All columns are stored as VARCHAR.

Coverage. Not a range. Every recipient with a positive trailing-12-month award amount at the latest weekly walk, the top of the ranking refreshed daily (owner decision 48). Each run refreshes its selected recipients and retains earlier rows outside that selection with their previous amounts, so the amounts can describe different trailing-12-month periods. A row read since per-row capture evidence was added states its observed_at and the digest of its source page; a row carried from earlier runs keeps NULL there, because its read time was not retained. An absent recipient may still exist in the publisher's awards data. (measured 2026-09-24)

Column Type Description
recipient_id VARCHAR USASpending recipient hash + level suffix (e.g. 7fe0d08f-...-R). Primary key / dedup key — unique per recipient_level.
uei VARCHAR Unique Entity Identifier (SAM.gov UEI, e.g. JE73CDQUAPA7). The org-resolution join key to SAM and other UEI-keyed sources. May be null for older records.
duns VARCHAR Legacy DUNS number, when present. Superseded by UEI; often null for newer records.
name VARCHAR Recipient name as recorded by USASpending (e.g. LOCKHEED MARTIN CORP). The name-resolution key.
recipient_level VARCHAR Recipient rollup level: P (parent), C (child), or R (recipient, no parent in that attribution). USAspending keeps one figure per level, so one UEI can hold R, P and C rows at once, each the publisher's own current figure (NMLEHM4JTN15: P and C $674,040.31, R $4.43B, read 2026-10-02), and the levels do not sum: a C row's amount is the child's own awards, which can sit under more than one parent UEI, so a child can exceed the P row of its own UEI; the P and C rows of one UEI can also come from different reads, so compare observed_at before comparing amounts. The list's amounts can differ from the recipient profile page's (that UEI's R profile stated $611.8M on 2026-10-03).
total_award_amount VARCHAR Trailing-12-month federal award dollars reported by the recipient list endpoint at the recipient's last read, as a numeric string (e.g. 63465270734.15). The ranking's sort key. Retained rows outside the latest selection can carry older amounts; observed_at says when this amount was read.
observed_at VARCHAR When the ranking response page this row was read from was captured (UTC, ISO 8601). NULL on a row carried from before per-row capture evidence, whose read time was not retained; a carried row never takes a later run's time.
source_capture_sha256 VARCHAR SHA-256 of the retained ranking response page this row was read from, so its values trace to one captured response. NULL exactly when observed_at is NULL.
