fec_relationships

Source-reported FEC relationship observations

Source-stated roles and associations with their exact evidence. Select value_status before treating rows as positive edges, then use the subject and object types with their ID statuses before joining identifiers. source_locator_json retains collection_id and source_record_id when emitted by the retained-input rollup; extract both to join exactly to fec_source_records. Standalone mapper outputs may lack those parent keys. source_family identifies the mapper's native source family and need not equal the official catalogue ID; use the parent record for that join.

Coverage. Sampled. Relationships mapped from the selected committee, candidate, bulk and original filing inputs. Missing, null, empty and reported-none states remain rows, so this is not a count of positive relationships, and it is not complete family coverage or full FEC history. (measured 2026-09-21)

Data quality. Names never become IDs. Identifier shape checks do not verify the named entity or prove the reference resolves. Independent source fields remain independent; conflicting assertions across observations and amendments remain visible. This table does not infer organization affiliations or replace org_committee_links name matches.

Column Type Description
subject_id VARCHAR Source-reported identifier of the relationship subject. Interpret with subject_type and subject_id_status.
subject_type VARCHAR Source entity type of the subject, such as committee or candidate.
subject_id_status VARCHAR Identifier observation status: source_id_shape, invalid_source_id_shape or not_reported. Shape checks do not establish reference resolution.
relationship_type VARCHAR Source role or association represented by this observation, preserving distinct reported meanings.
object_id VARCHAR Source-reported identifier of the related entity when present. No identifier is inferred from object_name.
object_type VARCHAR Type of related entity expected by the reported relationship.
object_id_status VARCHAR Identifier observation status for object_id; a valid shape is not proof of a resolved reference.
object_name VARCHAR Related name exactly as observed where supplied, including names with no reported identifier.
value_status VARCHAR Whether the source reported a value or an explicit absence such as missing_field, null, empty_string, empty_list or reported_none. Inspect before treating a row as an edge.
source_family VARCHAR Mapper's native source family, such as a bulk layout or API record family. For an official catalogue join, use the parent fec_source_records.source_family.
cycle VARCHAR Election cycle supplied for a bulk observation; current API observations may have no cycle.
candidate_election_year VARCHAR Candidate election year reported by the source when available.
source_sha256 VARCHAR Digest of the exact source bytes supporting this observation.
source_url VARCHAR Source URL associated with the retained evidence.
observed_at VARCHAR Evidence observation time when supplied; not an inferred effective date of the relationship.
source_locator_json VARCHAR JSON source coordinates and field names; retained-input rollups also include collection_id and source_record_id for exact parent joins.
source_fields_json VARCHAR JSON object preserving the exact source fields used for this relationship observation.
